Probably all for this week

I was home in Oklahoma last week for Thanksgiving. Elanna and I got to see a all the family and more. It seems like everyone is having babies now. We saw our 2 Nephews and one niece, one of our friends from back in college just had a baby, and my cousin just had her first little girl (which is kid number 5!!) Well no babies for us on the horizon right now.

I'm still going round and round with the finance companies trying to get the title for the now destroyed X-terra. It's pretty crazy. In short, I financed the X-Terra through one company and then refinanced through another. Both say the vehicle is paid of but both of them also say they no longer have a lien on the car so they can't give me a lien release. Well the Texas DOT says they have a lien on it and that's what keeping me from getting a title. I think I finally convinced both of them to send me a lien release, but I have still not gotten them in the mail.

Elanna and I head to see a real live NFL game tonight. Green Bay vs Dallas. I'm not a huge fan of either team but I like NFL football. Elanna is a huge Green Bay fan though so it should be fun. Hopefully we won't end up sitting by any super crazy Dallas fans.

Catching up

Lots of travel lately. I was in Florida all last week and then St. Paul all this week. No one ever gets excited about getting anything done till the end of the year. The Florida trip was pushed out from three weeks ago and the St Paul trip was supposed to happen back in September. I’m headed back home now though, writing this on the plane again.

We got the insurance settlement from the cars. They totaled my car and are repairing the Accord. We went and bought a 2004 Nissan Pathfinder last Friday to replace the X-Terra. Not a bad deal, the Pathfinder is nicer than my X-Terra and has less miles, though I’m a few grand in the hole now. That probably puts off my purchase of a BMW for a while. Of course the insurance won’t pay out the settlement till I give them the title to the X-Terra, which seems to be somewhat of a mystery. The X-Terra was paid off, but the credit union I refinanced the loan through doesn’t seem to be able to tell me either how to get a title from them or tell me who held the lien on the title. I haven’t had much time to track it down this week though.

Mira is doing well, despite our local vet’s reticence to really help with the treatment. I’ve started conversing with the specialist vet at the animal hospital in Dallas and calling our local vet whenever we need a prescription or a test. Mira finished up the “induction” phase of the treatment this week, which is good. There is now a lot less of a chance of harmful side effects. She is drinking a lot less water now. Hopefully her hair will start growing again.

Khuul is still in the hospital but is hoping to get out on Friday. He’s been there for almost a month now. He’s doing well, no more complications from the second surgery. Well enough that it’s driving him crazy to sit around in a hospital all day. I know I’d be going nuts. No word yet on when he will start his Chemo.

I’ve finished up my latest Masters course in Project Management. I’m not sure if I get to take a course this Spring. I only need 2 courses now, Digital Forensics and the Capstone. Digital Forensics isn’t offered this semester and, according to the graduate advisor I can’t take the capstone early. They also can’t tell me if Digital Forensics will be offered in the Summer either. I don’t think I want to wait A YEAR to finish.

The curse of the Cars

So everyone has been telling me, “You have to blog about that!” so here goes.

Halloween night a guy fell asleep behind the wheel of his car, drove up into my yard and smashed both my Car and Elanna’s. We were asleep when it happened. I heard the wreck and got up to see if anyone needed any help since it sounded very close. I looked out the window to see my car sitting in the front yard. He hit the X-Terra pretty much head on. It was pushed all the way across the driveway, over 50 feet, and spun completely around. It may have grazed the Accord on the way by, we couldn’t really tell. The guys car then slammed into Elanna’s Accord. He also hit 2 trees and took out my mailbox. The X-Terra is probably totaled, which is a bummer, since it was paid off. We weren’t really using it as our main car, but it was handy to have to haul stuff around and transport out bikes. (Yes they took out the Bike rack, that makes 2 now) The Accord can most likely be fixed. It didn’t have as much damage.

Here’s some pictures.

If you are keeping track that’s:

2 People that have driven into my yard.
1 Person who drove through Elanna’s fence in Tulsa
2 Wrecks my X-Terra has been in.
2 Wrecks the Accord has been in.

I am car-cursed.

Reading

I just finshed Codelia's Honor by Lois McMaster Bujold which is the first book of the Vorkosigan Saga.
Very good book, but the Sci-Fi bits are really secondary to the story.

Right now I'm reading The Lost Fleet Series by John Hemry/Jack Campbell It's sorta Honor Harrington but not really, though Honor Harrington even goes downhill in the later novels.
