Biking trails

Ninsi and Bunny both posted comments yesterday so rather than bury my responses in the comments, I thought put them here.

Running Bear Park is the park at Story and Hunter Ferrel, and yes it is the one with the mosquito pit, however they are filling it in. The real problem there appeared that everyone walked their large dogs in the park who treated the park like a bathroom.

I have heard about River legacy in Arlington, but I haven't tried it yet. My bike map says it's about 5.5 miles around the path, so I'll have to try it out. I also want to try out the Trinity River trails in Fort Worth.

Of course, I'm not doing much riding this week, I've got the flu that's been going around.

Biking

White Rock lake is pretty far from my house so I can only make it out there about once a week to go biking. Last Thursday I decided to ride around to all the parks that were near my house to see if any of them had any decent biking trails. Let's just say that Irving south of my house isn't the greatest neighborhood. The first park I went to, did in fact have a nice concrete path on which to ride, which circled a very scenic overgrown field. Part of the path had also been crushed by the earthmover that was filling in the sludge pit that was next to the path. Nothing like a big mosquito breeding ground right there in the park.

Not to be discouraged I rode east to the next park, a scenic ride that took me past the Irving Dump. The next park had a nice concrete path as well, however this time the field was mowed. It looked like there might have been a even nicer path that wound it's way down through the park but it was closed off due to "Sewer Repairs." I don't think I'll be going to either of those parks anytime soon.

Monketo Departed

Monketo and his new Bride headed off to England this past Saturday to start their new life overseas. Good Luck Monketo! Stay away from Bad English food.

Later on Saturday , The Dallas crew went to see the Cruxshadows this Saturday. It's very cool that even though they can fill a stadium in Europe they will still come and play a small bar here in Dallas. And of course since it was small venue the show was Awesome! I've seen Cruxshadows at least 7 times now and they are still as good as the first time. They have a new album and you get get their songs on itunes, so what are you waiting for!

In other less important news, you can now download Movies and TV Shows directly from Amazon to your Tivo, this may make me buy a second Tivo.

Weekend

Much like Phlome, I spent most of the weekend working on the yard. I usually put off the whole seeding/fertilizer ting till it's too late and then I have a very sickly yard all summer. This was the first weekend it wasn't freezing so hopefully I'll get some good grass this year.

Saturday night, We went and saw the 300 with Khuul and his new wife. It thought it was pretty good. Very straightforward plot. They don't waste much time getting right into the battle of the Spartans vs the Persians. I especially liked the way that it was presented, as if it had already happened and the story was being retold by the lone survivor. Khuul liked it more than I did I think, but movies that involve duty, honor, and overwhelming odds are his thing.

Sunday I went biking with Donut. I bought his old bike about a year ago, but I just started really using it. We did about 27 miles around White Rock Lake. I could probably bike further but I haven't built up a "butt callous" yet so the seat really starts hurting after about 20 miles.

Things people have sent me in email.

Reading

I just finshed Codelia's Honor by Lois McMaster Bujold which is the first book of the Vorkosigan Saga.
Very good book, but the Sci-Fi bits are really secondary to the story.

Right now I'm reading The Lost Fleet Series by John Hemry/Jack Campbell It's sorta Honor Harrington but not really, though Honor Harrington even goes downhill in the later novels.
