Here in Oklahoma now preparing for the wedding festivites on Sunday. The rehearsal and dinner went well last last night. And I have to say, If you get married make sure you talk with everyone you've hired and go over your ceremony with them a few days before the wedding. We went by the caterers yesterday just to give them the final payment and ended up going over everything with them while we were there. Thanks to Elanna's organization skills that headed off at least two minor problems. We then ended up doing the same with the owner of the site at the rehearsal and took care of a few more. Just little things you never think about like where exactly you want them to put the tables and where you are going to walk and such. Not too much wedding related today, just running some errands and visiting family and friends. The out of town guests begin arriving tomorrow and then the ball really starts rolling.

Back from Dragoncon now, I haven’t had time to go through all the pictures yet but I’ll get those posted soon. It’s not as much of an effort now that I have a cool little program that automatically thumbnails them for me.
Friday was a hectic day. It started off at 5:30 am to head to the airport so we could catch out plane by 8:30. Arrived in Atlanta at 11:30, then got to the Hyatt by a little after Noon and lo and behold they had the EXACT rooms that I had reserved. I had 2 rooms and in the Ivy tower friends of ours had arranged the night before so that our rooms and theirs were together so we had our own little corner of the 8th floor pretty much to ourselves. We then headed out and around the hotel to pick up badges and for the first time in many years I didn’t have to wait in line to get it. Our first Panel was the “TrekTrak” show with George Takei. It was fairly interesting though he talked more about politics than Star Trek. I didn’t realize that he had spent 3 years as a child in a WWII Japanese Interment camp. After that it was time for party preparations. Last year I tried to get everyone together to have dinner which ended up taking most of the evening, so this year I decided to have a “room” party for everyone instead. This involved some serious logistics, including hauling, 4 cases of beer and soda, 4 2 liters chips, cookies and other party stuff about three blocks and up two stairways in a suitcase.
Saturday stared off with the Battlestar Galactica panel. Nearly half the cast of the show was there including Chief Tyrell, Halo, Baltar, Mrs. Tigh, the shows science and technical advisor, and Richard Hatch. They were all very excited about the new season and said it would be “darker” than before. Sheesh it was pretty dark already. After that was the first trip of many trips to the Dealers room and exhibitor halls. There were 3 this year. I was able to find a lot of the graphic novels that I’ve been wanting to buy but are out of print. That afternoon we caught the Stargate panel which was very interesting. Don Davis said that SG-1 was not cancelled it just wasn’t going to be on the Sci-Fi channel anymore and Dean Delvin the producer of the original Stargate movie said that 2 more films were in the works. After that we all retired to a nice off-con dinner at Steak and Ale. Then we all stayed up really late to see the Cruxshadows play their best show that I’ve seen. They played for well over 2 hours and had a great sound system, unlike past years.
Sunday the only panel I went to was the Firefly Panel with Summer Glau (River) and Alan Tudyk (Wash) Alan was very funny, of course, he’s been in a lot of movies besides Firefly. I’ll be nice and say that Summer didn’t say much. That night was the gathering of the Stonecutters. I’ll link pictures as soon as I have them up. This year at least 5 people filmed us while singing the stonecutters song, so I’m sure that will show up on the net at some point.
Monday was a nice “recovery” day to see everything we hadn’t seen so far. We had opted to stay till Tuesday. It was great to not have to get up and participate in the mad rush out of the hotel room with the rest of the con.
