Geekiest Weekend Ever

I meant to post yesterday but it kinda got lost since I'm deathly ill at the moment. More about that later, first I'll tell you about this weekend. My brother, Halo and his friend came down, and joined Phlome, Demi,Donut and I for 12 straight hours of D&D. More than that really since we spent a good deal of time Friday evening making characters. Donut dubbed it the "Geekiest weekend ever." Unfortunatley, Saturday night, I started feeling ill. By Sunday I had a Temp of 101. This is the week of the Chemo cycle that I have low white blood cell counts, so if I get sick this week then it very difficult for me to get well. The doctor said there wasn't any reason for concern unless my temp got over 102. Right now it's holding at about 100 dropping to a normal 98.6 every few hours when I take painkillers. To top it all off I have ore plumbing problems, the floor in front of the sink is warm and I get hot water from the cold water tap. I know FROM EXPERIENCE that this means there is a leak in a hot water pipe somewhere. The last time this happend the insurence company covered most of the cost, of course since this would be the third claim in 2 years, if I do claim it they might drop my coverage. I hate insurence companies.

Oh I forgot to mention despite my Illness Halo and I went and saw Constantine on Sunday. Overall, it was "Not bad." It's like they couldn't decide if they were making a new version of the exorcist or "Blade" with demons instead of vampires. The holy auto-shotgun was a little much.

Your Wireless Network is Not Secure

Okay so I'm still pretty busy, but If i don't post today then I probably won't until sometime next week. I've been working on my research paper for school and since I'm writing about a topic that I know a lot about, wireless networking, I'm actually having the opposite problem that I did in college, it's going to be too long. The limit is 10 pages and my intro is already 3 pages long. I guess I'll have to cut down on explaning stuff and just refer to other documents for explanation. Oh and just as a point of information, you can't fuly secure a wireless network. Especially not ones built with stuff from Best Buy. You can make it a pain to break into though. My suggestion for your home networks. Enable your 140 bit wep key. That will at least prevent your neighbors kid from surfing porn on your connection and an actual hacker will have to WORK at it to break into your network.

Cleaning House

Been meaing to do a little cleaning on the links sidebar. It pretty much goes like this, you need to link to me if I'm going to link you (I check using Technorati.com), and you need to post regularly (I have everyone in my sidebar in my Sharpeader. ) So if you see your page drop off the links that's why. If you are linking me and I somehow missed you, let me know! Oh and BTW the drugs are making me grumpy this week, so if I tell you to STFU or something I don't really mean it.

In my quest to try new and interesting web apps. I got Firefox to work on both my PC's now. I really like the tabbed browsing feature. Anyone know of a good open-source pop mail client? I'm using Outlook express now, but it's not exaclty feature-laden.

Is it really Tuesday?

I'm back now. Hopefully with a more normal life for a bit. Had my 5th Chemo treatment yesterday but really no new news. I haven't had any tests run since the last Treamtment so I didn't even see the doctor. Tired and a little nauseous today but not nearly as bad as last time.

Rev Layle just released a New Album. You should all go download it now, don't be cheap it's only $2.00.

RPGNOW

I am completly addicted to RPGNOW.COM. You can download PDFs of RPG books, lots of them long out of print. That is just too cool. And I'm quite sure this settles any disagreement there was about how big a geek I am, not that there probably was much.

In other news, In south Dakota, one mans fights for your rights to see boobies.

From Penny Arcade "If you resent being called stupid, something I can understand myself, then all I ask is that you not act like such a Goddamn idiot all the time."

And along that same thought path, it looks like some high-school kids need to be smacked.

Reading

I just finshed Codelia's Honor by Lois McMaster Bujold which is the first book of the Vorkosigan Saga.
Very good book, but the Sci-Fi bits are really secondary to the story.

Right now I'm reading The Lost Fleet Series by John Hemry/Jack Campbell It's sorta Honor Harrington but not really, though Honor Harrington even goes downhill in the later novels.
