October 2004 Archives

I think most people have found out now either from me or through the grapevine, but I know some of you keep up with me on the blog so I wanted to let you know what's going on. I had a weird pain in my back and shoulders all day on Friday. By about 2am Sunday morning the pain was unbearable. I took a Vikaden and it was no help at all. I try to avoid hospitals at all costs so I toughed it out and went to a Minor Emergency Center early Saturday morning. The Doctor at the MEC could not figure out what was going on, so he did a chest x-ray to give us some more info. I thought I might have somehow broken a rib or something. What he found was that the pain in my chest was caused by a large tumor. I was told I needed to go to the Hospital Emergency Room Immediately. I was at the hospital most of the day on Saturday. They ran tests, and X-Rays, and a CAT scan and determined that yes, it was definatley a tumor. I was kind of oblivious to all this until they got the pain under control. When I was coherent, I spoke with the Doctors. They told me that the tumor wasn't dangerous,(other than excrutiating pain I guess) but it needed to be treated right away. It being late on a Saturday, they couldn't schedule anything till Monday. As long as the pain was bearable with the medication they felt it would be better for me to rest at home until then. Tommorrow, I'm checking into the hospital so they can run more comprehensive tests, and then on Tuesday do a Biopsy. After the results of the Biopsy then I find out what my treatment options are.

I probably won't be blogging for a while or at least intermittently at best. I will try and keep the blog updated if I can so everyone can check on how I'm doing. The hospital where I'll be at is Baylor Grapevine. If you need more info you can call my cell, and whoever answers it will be able tell you what's going on. Or get in touch with Phlome, he'll know what's going on as well.

Don't kick me out yet!

Well I've been really busy this week. NO time to bloig and really not much to say if I did. Big plans for this weekend! People coming in town for a visit, Poker on Friday, Bedlam on Saturday afternoon, and then the Big Halloween party Saturday night. I'll sure they'll be pictures.

Well for a weekend where I supposewdly had "no plans" I sure seemed to fit a lot in. Friday Phlome,Donut, SZ and I went to Bone Daddy's for Dinner. ALways a good time. :) Afterwards, everyone but Donut went off to see Team America:World Police. I wouldn't say it was the worst movie I've ever seen, no that would still have to be either Crow 2 or Batman and Robin, but it was really relly bad, I fell asleep. Neither Phlome nor SZ were really impressed either.

Saturday Phlome and I played our last round of cheap golf for this year. I thought I did pretty well but turns out I did just about as well as I always do, which ain't that great. SAturday evening we met up with a bunch of people at Gloria's for dinner then preceded to barhop from Velvet Hooka, to Reno's Chop Shop, nearly to Sense, but they didn't approve of Phlome's shoes, so we headed down the street to the Old Monk, which IMO was probably better than Sense anyway.

Sunday I didn't do too muc, had lunch with some friends and had a fabulous home-cooked Dinner with different friends.

Today I'm off to Balimore, well supposedly, it's storming pretty bad here and my flight is already delayed a half hour. If it's delayed too much more I'll may switch it to in the morning.

Let's all do the bump!

Okay I normally don't post on Friday but I didn't yesterday so in order to keep my blog from slipping into oblivion like some people, I'll at least post something today. For some reason, this comic reminds me of Hagrok, not Hagrok the blogger or Hagrok the actual person, but the original "Hagrok the Ogre."

Also, I have some requests for the Calories of Beer Webpage so here it is as well. Phlome and I appear to be left to our own devices for the evening. I'm sure it will involve beer. I'm also sure we'll be subjected to some DDing by the NGF crew this weekend.

Oh and....

What Pulp Fiction Character Are You?

Your name alone strikes fear into others; but maybe, just maybe, there's a little vulnerability and weakness beneath that stoic, fierce exterior of yours.

Take the What Pulp Fiction Character Are You? quiz.

Did that guy just?.....EWWW yes he did.

The Pixies concert that I bought tickets for months and months ago was last night. Neko and Agent Five made the trip down from Arkansas to go see it with Bunny, Monketo, Donut and I. The concert was great show. The show was very Pixies, in other words, pretty minimalist, but that's their style. One of their videos is simply a slow motion film of the band running up a hill while the song plays in the background. We were all highly entertained by the crowd around us including some guy who managed to vomit all over himself, and what appeared to be two drunk frat guys who were apparently coming out of the closet right before our eyes. I think Neko was also highly entertained by Monekto and Donut, who are like a traveling stand-up act once you get them going.

These words of wisdom come from Neil Gaiman's Blog. Which if you're not reading you should be.

[Do not Send me]"Letters written on black paper with a silver pen.
Silver pen on black paper is not nearly as cool as you think it is."

How many Bush administration officials does it take to change a light bulb?

None. There’s nothing wrong with that light bulb. There is no need to change anything. We made the right decision and nothing has happened to change our minds. People who criticize this light bulb now, just because it doesn’t work anymore, supported us when we first screwed it in, and when these flip-floppers insist on saying that it is burned out, they are merely giving aid and encouragement to the Forces of Darkness.

Well I'm in Baltimore now, well actually I'm in Laurel,MD and staying in Columbia,MD but Baltimore is the nearest city anyone would have heard of. I don't really have anything intresting to say. I always think of a few intresting things to blog about when I am bored on the plane. I should write stuff like that down in my PDA so I can blog about it later. Of course, that might be lke when you get a great idea while drinking, write it down, look at it later and say "What a load of shit."

Why do I only get sick on weekends?

Well I didn't do a whole lot this weekend, as I was sick most of it. I've been sick 3 times this year and always on a weekend. I spent most of Friday night watching my Thundarr cartoons, well really sleeping through most of them. I did manage to drag myself out to see the OU/Texas game on Saturday. Quite a good game, and that's coming from someone who doesn't wat a lot of football. Now I'm getting ready to fly off to Baltimore so it's another hectic week for me.

I, uh, forgot to blog yesterday. I posted in the forums and left comments on other people's pages and then neglected to write in my own blog. Halo now has his own blog so go and check it out. I finally upgraded to the newest version of Movable Type. It's pretty nifty and now I can get rid of all the nasty comment spam.

I went to the 1 year anniversary party at Medici last night. I thought it was quite nice, if not REALLY crowed. Hardly the wretched hive of smarm and cheese that Bunny made it out to be.

Reading

I just finshed Codelia's Honor by Lois McMaster Bujold which is the first book of the Vorkosigan Saga.
Very good book, but the Sci-Fi bits are really secondary to the story.

Right now I'm reading The Lost Fleet Series by John Hemry/Jack Campbell It's sorta Honor Harrington but not really, though Honor Harrington even goes downhill in the later novels.
