Blood Sugar Workout Magic

I've never had a blood-sugar crash, but I have now. I've been working out with a personal trainer, for almost 3 weeks now, lst night was my 5th session. The trainer pushes me to go a little further each time, and last night I guess I hit my limit. About 45 minutes into the work-out I was kneeling on a pad, doing an arm/chest/shoulder exercise, and I began to feel queasy. This isn't something totally new, I used to feel queasy all the time when I rode my bike long distances. I pushed myself to make it through the exercise, despite the feeling and I finished the last one and that's really all I remember. The next thing I know I'm on the ground, with the trainer standing over me. I sit up and and now I feel REALLY SICK and DIZZY. The trainer tells me I've had a blood sugar crash. He makes me eat some glucose tablets and magically I feel better, though I was still a little shaky. He tells me that we are done for the day, which kinda sucks cause I only worked out for 45 minutes instead of an hour, but I guess that was probably enough for one day. I mean I did pass out.
From now on, I'll make sure and eat some Carbs before I go to workout.

Unitarian Universalism

A friend mentioned Unitarian Universalism to me and being the big geek that I am; I looked it up on the internet. I'd heard of people being Unitarian before, but never really knew what it meant. It's a liberal religious faith that preaches tolerance and free will. I had no idea a liberal faith even existed. Religion and right-wing politics go hand-in-hand these days and for a faith to promote themselves as liberal is refreshing.

2 day Weekend at 4-Day weekend

It looks like everyone enjoyed my little quiz, though I think all I know now is that we all like still water and can't wait to tell everyone when we win some money.

I have been contemplating buying a keg-fridge for some time now and since last friday was poker night and this Saturday is the big party, it seemed like a good time. The fridge itself was easy enough to obtain, and relitivley easy to assemble. Unfortunatley, the keg itself was a little more difficult. See Phlome's entry today for some helpful info on buying a keg. Suffice it to say that after 5 liquor stores, (one of which apparenlty only exists in the mind of mapquest) we got a keg of Shiner and a full bottle of CO2. I feel the keg-fridge is an environmently conscious purchase. Now I'm not throwing away 80+ empty bottles everytime we play poker.

Poker night proceeded onward without a hitch. We had so many people this time we had to split into 2 tables. I managed to pull down $10 in winnings.

Saturday we headed to downtown Fort Worth. The original plan was to hit Joe T's for margaritas and some mexican, but the line was out the door and around the block so we opted for La Playa Maya, right down the street. It was mediocre at best. Afterwards, we went to see 4-Day weekend, an improv comedy troupe. They were amazing as always.

Sunday was more laid back. I bought one of those wireless dog fences, that is supposed give your dog a little shock if they stray outside the "safe zone." Well either it doesn't work or Mira's fur is too thick to feel it. She happily wandered into and out of the "safe zone", the collar beeping all the while.

Everyone go and congratulate, Ninsi, she just graudauted from the post-layoff stop-loss job to a upwardly mobile position in her field.

Global Warming? That's old school. Here's 5 new and interesting ways mother earth is trying to do us in.

This is from the article "The Ends of the Earth" by Bruce Sterling in this months Wired magazine.

Global Dimming
In 1985 A climatoigist discoverd that the amount of light received by the earth is decreasing. This was confirmed by an extensive study in 2001. This is not because the sun is putting out less light folks something in the atmospshere is making it darker.

Unpredictable Day Length
Common scientific belief is that the Earth's rotation is slowing down. Recently, using the atomic clock, its been shown that this trend has reversed itself and the earth's rotation is actually speeding up. Think it doesn't matter if a day is actually 23 hours 59.63889432 seconds long? It matters to computers, it matters a lot.

Interplanetary Chaos
The dinosaurs were wiped out by an asteroid that hit the earth. An astro-biologist has shown that small perturbations in Earth's orbit may have actually pulled the rock into striking distance.

Supernovas
Fossil evidence suggets that Earth may have suffered under the impact of distant supernovas, so much so that they may have wiped out 90% of the life on earth at the time. Now there's a disaster movie plot, A supernova occured in the solar system next door, we're all dead in 20,000 years.

Planetary Insolvency
Insurence companies keep statistics on everything. Especially when it involves money. According to the Munich Group Insurance company the number of natural disasters has been increasing over the last 50 years. So much so that by 2050 the entire global ecomny will not be enough to rebuild from all the natural disasters. These natural disasters are the result of....ta da global warming. Okay so one old school disaster.

look i'm not snotty at all, but I just have to say Maine kinda blows. My hotel room stinks of smoke, my cell phone doesn't work here, it's like 22 degrees outside(and they refer to this as a "warm front"), and the worst part of all is there is nothing to do here. I'm sure there is if you're from here, but I hell if I can find anything.

So I go do my job today and troubleshoot the network, and well, guess what? Thier network is fine. So I spend all day on the phone trying to get someone else from the "batwings" to help them with thier problem. Finally, around 7 pm I get all the right people on a conf call together to talk about thier problems. They agree to have another conf call at 3pm tomorrow, which I need to be on. After this call our customer tells me, "Well I guess there's no reason for you to be here till around 3, so just come in then." Great so I have all night and pretty much most of the day tomorrow to enjoy this city.

I'm celebrating not having to get up at 6am (that's EST 5am CST) by splitting a 6-pack with myself. Cheers!

Okay so I fiannly get on the plane going from Boston to Augusta. Now I know this is goign to be one of those small commuter planes since it;s a short flight, but what I saw on the tarmac as I walked out didn't appear to be an airplane at all. It was more like some kind of mutant-child of a bus and a world war 2 bomber. I had to duck down to get on and stay hunched over till I got in my seat, which by the way the plane had a total of 10. There was no cockpit door and no restroom and I could see right out the front of the plane, which is actuall kinda cool. Of course, this little plane doesn't have the mass of the lerger planes, so takeoff and landing were like a rollercoaster ride. A few people on the plane were freakin out a little. Me? I fell asleep. 4 hours in a comfy 1st class chair and not even a yawn. I get on this tiny ass prop plane and I'm out like a light. After a stop in Rockland, ME it arrives in Augusta and I get off.

Augusta is very small. I find my hotel, which boasts "Newly Renovated." I guess that didn't include getting the smoke smell out of all the carpets. In the parking lot is a mexican restraunt call La Margarita. I am told by at least three 3 people that it's the best restraunt in town. A mexican place in Maine scares me more than just a little, so I went and had a great seafood dinner.

I'm in....Maine

So my day started by rushing around trying to get everyting together and leave the house by 8:30, because I luckily discoverd that my flight left at 10 am not 11 like I first thougt. The flight from DFW to Boston/Logan was uneventful. The flight was nearly empty so I splurged some of my upgrade points and rode in first class. I landed in Boston with 45 minutes to get to my connecting flight, which was on another airline. I ask them where that airlines terminal is and I'm told, "Oh it's real easy, just out out past security, inot the parking lot, and it's straight across." PAST SECURITY! I think to myself. That means I have to go back thorugh security. So I rush across the street get my boarding pass and wait in line at security. The TSA agent looks at my card and says "OH you have to coem with me." My first thought was, maybe there's a seperate line if your flight is leaving soon. WRONG! I guess becasue I'd never flown this airline before , I'd been "randomly" selected for extra-screening. So here I am 20 minutes till my plane LEAVES and I have to go through the whole process. Shoes off, belt off, laptop out, bags fully searched. And then it gets worse. The guy tells me to take my watch and belt off and ut them in the bin with my shoes. I do, noticing my watch falls in my shoe. I think nothing of it.

As I am watching the guy hand search my bag, I see me shoes go from one agent, to another, to another and fianally the head-guy in charge. He reaches in the shoe and pulls out my watch. He then walks over, asks for my boarding card and ID and says "Don't put your watch in your shoe anymore." I say "Okay." And without another word he walks off with my ID and boarding card. WTF! Certainly I haven't cause some kind of incident by putting my watch in my shoe! The head agent proceeds to write down all the information on my ID and my boarding card in this HUGE book. I have no idea what for. He then hands me back my stuff and says "You're free to go." Like I was under arrest or some shit up till now. I hurry down to my gate only with 5 minutes to go only to discover they haven't even started boarding yet. WHEW!

Of course it is Boston/Logan Airport. They might have a reason to be a security conscious.

Okay there's more to this story but it'll have to wait till after dinner and beer.

Well I am off to Augusta, Maine in the morning. Leave DFW bout 10 am get to Augusta at 5pm. How's that for a whole day on lovely airplanes. (Of course Princette does that every day.) Today was very busy trying to make last minute travel arrangements and pack. Infrequent updates this week. Back Blogstopo Back! :)

A big shout out to Lizard, who I know is reading.

Golf and Beer

That's what this weekend seems to have involed. Well okay Friday was more Tequila than beer but I digress. Saturday Phlome and I took our first golf, lesson which improved my swing immensly. Afterwords, we went over to a local par 3 and played a quick 17 holes. We skipped one because a guy was teaching two young girls to play and they were very slow.

Then went over to a friends house for a cookout. He has his very own Keg-fridge, which led to more drinking of beer, some drunken darts, and naughty Limericks. Sometime, during all this, Non-girlfriend decided she needed to drunken dial both Phlome and I, in revenge for our drunken dialing to her friday night. Nothing like Drunken dials from the blogosphere! As my brother said "Good Times!"

Came home pretty early actually, well early for me around 11:30. Oddly enough that was a good thing. Through some judcious use of Instant Messenger, I got to talk with and old friend that I haven't spoken to years, which was very nice.

Today didn't involve any beer but Phlome and I went out golfing again, and the lessons proved to be worth every penny.

I decided that I'll probably never get around to editing ALL the St. Paddy's day pictures but here' s the best two.

This is the Dallas Blogosphere. The back row from left to right, Princette, Non-Girlfriend, Bunny and Zero (ME!). The front row is Ninsi and Phlome. They are holding the sign Non-Girlfriend made to find us at Bennigans.

And this is the now infamous, "Step Off Beyatch" Photo. I have no memory of actually taking this picture.

No please 6 is quite enough

So Bunny had the great idea that we should have a happy hour this evening. The idea was to gather at Joe T's and split a pitcher or two of margaritas and then move on to something else. Well that didn't quite happen. Phlome, Demigoblin, Monketo, and a few other friends trickled in and after 6 pitchers and 4 hours we decided we had moved from a happy hour to some serious drinking. I apologize now to anyone we drunken dialed, we got a little crazy with the cells phones. I think someone actually threated legal action. Ah well think of it this way, if I like ya enough to call you when I'm drunk you are a true friend. Think of it as a compliment. I think Neko and Non-GF got the worst of it, they were good enough sports to answer thier phones.

Okay I didn't get any pictures uploaded from St. Paddy's day. Last night I went for my second session with the personal trainer. I guess the first time he was just gauging what I could handle, because last night he pushed me to my limit. He made me use every single machine they had until I literally could not lift/push/pull/sit-up anymore. Somehow I am not sore today, though I do have so weird bruises on my shoulders from using the shoulder machine. Anyway, I was so tired last night, I didn't even bother messing with the pictures. There's a really great one of Phlome and Bunny giving each other a "Step Off Beyatch" look that just has to be seen.

Who's betta dan im?

Phlome has posted a much better story about last nights St. Paddy's Day Festivites. I myself couldn't even remember what order people showed up in. Just a little side note, if you order 3 car bombs and everyone agrees they are bad, don't offer to drink them "Just so they won't go to waste"

Dallas Blogosphere St. Paddy's Day

Last night the Dallas Blogosphere celebrated St. Paddy's day at Bennigans.

Myself, Phlome, Ninsi, Bunny, Non-Girlfriend, and Princette were all in attendance, in addition to a few non-blogging friends. I knew that bennigans got a little crazy, during St. Paddy's day but I had no idea it was THAT crazy! There were police officers breaking up fights, people falling down in the parking lot, and women in the men's bathroom. It's like one night of the year Bennigans becomes some kind of dirty seedy Irish pub, except I think we might have gotten better service from a dirty seedy irish pub. Bennigans is definitley out for next year.

Phlome and I both took some pictures so I'll try and get those up in the next few days.

Green Hair and Beer

As promised here are the pics of me and the Flash at the St. Patricks Day Festival/ Violent Femmes concert this past weekend. Note that I am holding up the only kind of non-light beer they sold. I thought St. Patricks day was supposed to involve Green Beer?

Weekend Fun

First and most importantly, Congratulations to Jessie and Jackie on thier Wedding! I've seen Phlome's picutres and I have to say Neko, Ninsi, and Jess all looked Fabulous in both their Wedding and post-wedding attire.

I celebrated St. Patricks day this weekend in the fine tradition of my Irish ancestors. Marc, Bunny, and I all agreed to meet at Trinity Hall, an irish pub near lower greenville, and then walk over to where the Viloent Femmes were giving a free concert! While I was waiting on my friends to show up I met two nice young ladies who were also going to the concert, though they didn't know where it was. Being the gentleman thet I am, I invited them to come along with us. Bunny had brought along some green hair-spray, so Marc and I decided to spray our hair green in honor of the event! I have pictures but I'll have to post them later, as they are still in the camera.

The Viloent Femmes show was amazing! I have always wanted to see them live but didn't think I would ever get the chance. After the show, our new friends invited us to a nearby party. I think "wild party" might be too mild a term for this one, as most of the poeple had been drinking for quite a while by the time we got there. I think it can be best summed up by this quote from one of the random partiers.
"My god is it really only 8 o'clock."
After a late dinner at Cafe Brazil, I finally made it home around midnight. Of Course, I think I'll have to go out and celebrate St. Patrick's day again this Wenesday, since it's the official holiday.

Happy Birthday Bubba

28 years ago today I got to sit in the hospital, (St. Francis I think) and color while I waited on my baby brother to be born. I remember being quite disppointed that my parents named him Grady. I was hoping for either Bert or Ernie. He then precede to tormet me for the next 16-17 or years as most siblings do. For a while, his crib was in my room, and he would stand up in it in the middle of the night and yell at me in some kind of incoherent speech, until I woke up. He would then prompty fall back alseep, mission accomplished I suppose.
Hope you have a Happy Birthday!

This should be a surprise to no one.

My God It's Full of Stars

The latest pictures from the hubble telescope are unbelievable.

Okay I've heard of this before and I was reminded of it by reading an article this weekend. In all of the kid Cereal commercials the plot seems to revolve around one of the characters trying to keep the cereal away from someone else.
The kids try to keep the rabbit from eating Trix, Barney is always trying to steal Fred's fruity Pebbles, The kids are always trying to get the Lucky Charms, The cop keeps he crook from stealing the cookie crisp. I can't really remember what happend with the frog in the sugar smacks commercial but it seemed like he had to bounce away while eating them. What the heck kind of marketing campaign is that? Is it some kind of "Forbidden Fruit" syndrome? If so why is it used for kids cereals and not other kids products? (AHA I've stolen your pokemon, come get it..etc.) So some of you marketing types clue me in.

Holy Flaming Trailers Batman

Okay so, Yesterday I'm driving down I-30 towards Dallas, and there is this Police Offcier standing in the middle of the highway frantically waving his arms at me. I stop, and tehn the officer starts waving his arms frantically at the guy next to me in the other lane, who also stops. I think ,What the Fuck is going on and look around just in time to see an 18-wheel flat bed with a mobile home on the back come barreling down the access road and onto the highway right in front of me. This is not all that much cause for alarm except that the mobile home is ON FIRE!
There is already one police car chasing it and the one who flagged me down quickly jumps in his carand begins to chase the flatbed. There not much I go do but start following the police, there just nowhere else to go. So here I am following the police cars who are trying to get the flaming mobile home to pull over. The guy in the flatbed truck must have been freaking out though because he seemed to be oblivious to everything going on and just keep right on driving down the highway. After a mile or two the fire spread from the mobile home to the actual truck and pieces of flaming debris started falling off onto the highway. Eventually, the fire got some bad that the back of the trailer collapsed and the guy had to stop. The police officers all jumped out and began to use thier extinguishers on the fire, which produced an enormous amoutn of smoke. I figured I wa going to be stuck thier for hours while they put out the fire, but they wave everyone around to the side soI had to drive within about 3 feet of he smoldering wreck to get by. I only wish I had had my Camera.

Still glad to be back home and not going anywhere. Though I did wake up yesterday with my eye very swollen yeterday. Not like Pink Eye or anything, I've had that before more like someone clocked me in the eye without my knowledge. I was pretty sure it was nothing, but I went to the Doctor anyway. Anything with my eyes always make sme nervous. It's my EYE for godsake. The doctor said it was nothing, a minor eye infection, that would go away in a few days. Last night was poker night and I cleaned up! Well okay I won $20 off a $10 buy in, and most of that was from Jim, who took all my money last time, butI still made more than anyone else.

Okay so this is my book

You're Prufrock and Other Observations!

by T.S. Eliot

Though you are very short and often overshadowed, your voice is poetic
and lyrical. Dark and brooding, you see the world as a hopeless effort of people trying
to impress other people. Though you make reference to almost everything, you've really
heard enough about Michelangelo. You measure out your life with coffee spoons.

You're Thailand!

Calmer and more staunchly independent than almost all those around you,
you have a long history of rising above adversity.  Recent adversity has led to questions
about your sexual promiscuity and the threat of disease, but you still manage to attract a

Well after fixing the network today in Lansing, BY REPLACING A CABLE, and 8 hours of travel I am finally back home in Dallas. Oh for those of you that would like to see/hear me karaoke there are a few things you might want to know.

I'm also stuck with some kind of bizzare network connectivity. I can see my webpage and use my blog but I can't get into my email. So if you sent me email today be patient I'll read it tonight when I get back to the hotel.

Looks like I'll be working late again tonight, well I guess I already am since it's 7pm here and I'm still working......

The Weekend

Okay so I'll try and wrap up the weekend for you here. I left friday and drove to Oklahoma City to spend the weekend with my brother and his friends. Friday night we hit Bennigans for some dinner, played X-Box, drank some beer and then went out to the Brick-town brewery. Really great place except thier system for getting a pool table sucks. You pretty much have to watch and see when there's an open table and then go ask for the pool balls. The in-house draft beers were only $1.50 though, and I assure you I took full advantage of this value pricing. We retired to house for some more X-Box but 2 of us, ( yes I was one of them) actually fell asleep with the controllers in our hands.

Hung out and rested for most of the day on Saturday. Cody brought a tape of Charlie Murphy's True Hollywood Stories from the Dave Chappelle show. Check out the Rick James clips. This is some funny shit. Saturday night, what must have been at least 15 people went out to "CityWalk," in Bricktown. It one of those 4-clubs-in-one places. They basically have a different room for different kinds of music, 80's, Techno, Country, and piano bar. Some of the girls attempted to teach me to line dance, but failed miserably. I ended up hanging out in the 80's retro-club. They were at least playing Def Leppard.
At the end of the night, we crammed more people than could phsyically fit into my XTerra and headed back to my brother's place, with only one pit stop at 1:58 AM when we realized in two minutes we couldn't buy beer anymore.

Most of the crew retired to bed when we got back. Cody decided that since he and I were the "Lonley Single Guys" we needed to watch "Bad Boys 2." I lasted about 5 minutes into it before I was out.

Not much happened on Sunday, I drove home and cleaned the house for the impending Academy Awards party. FHB, Ninisiana, and Neko have already covered that in detail so check out thier pages. All I have to say is that I got 17 of the awards right, just as many as FHB.

Reading

I just finshed Codelia's Honor by Lois McMaster Bujold which is the first book of the Vorkosigan Saga.
Very good book, but the Sci-Fi bits are really secondary to the story.

Right now I'm reading The Lost Fleet Series by John Hemry/Jack Campbell It's sorta Honor Harrington but not really, though Honor Harrington even goes downhill in the later novels.
